KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Sindh High Court (SHC) has allowed court reporters to resume reporting as usual while halting the implementation of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s (PEMRA) notification until June 6.
PEMRA's notification of ban on court proceedings reporting was challenged in the SHC. The court approved the petition for immediate hearing. A two-member bench, headed by SHC chief justice, heard the case.
The petition was filed by Ameen Anwar, Shaukat and others, making PEMRA, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and others respondents.
The petition stated that PEMRA issued the notification of court reporting ban on May 21 in contravention of its rules.

It was contended that the authority meeting wasn’t called before putting ban on court reporting. The petition argued that court reporters’ opinion wasn’t taken into consideration under PEMRA laws.
Petition mentioned that PEMRA’s decision to ban court reporting had violated several articles of the constitution.
The court adjourned the hearing until June 6 by issuing notice on the petition.
