PPP, MQM-P candidates submit papers for Sindh Assembly's speaker, deputy speaker

Opposition parties are ineligible to field candidates for the speaker, deputy speaker slots

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders have submitted nomination papers for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker in the Sindh Assembly.

According to sources, the PPP has requested the MQM-P to withdraw their candidates for both offices.  The MQM-P submitted the nomination papers of Sofia Shah for speaker and Rashid Shah for deputy speaker.

Meanwhile, the PPP has nominated Awais Shah for the speaker position and Anthony Naveed for the deputy speaker's office.

The opposition parties are not eligible to field their candidates for the speaker and deputy speaker positions in the Sindh Assembly.

It is pertinent to mention that 13 successful candidates of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) (independents), the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have not taken oath as members of the Sindh Assembly.

Consequently, the opposition parties are ineligible to contest the election for speaker and deputy speaker.
