MULTAN (Dunya News) – Peshawar Zalmi secured their maiden victory of the Pakistan Super League season nine (PSL 9) after they thumped favourite Multan Sultans by five runs in the last-ball thriller at Multan Stadium.
Arif Yaqoob’s timely three-wicket haul in his last over proved a major breakthrough for Babar Azam’s side, which was struggling to restrict runs in early overs.
Khushdil Shah, David Willey and Usama Mir were dismissed in quick succession by Yaqoob, turning the tables on the home side.
Sultans’ opener Yasir Khan made 43 runs while Mohammad Rizwan was removed for duck. After his dismissal, Reeza Hendricks and David Malan made 28 and 52, respectively, taking their side closer to the target.
Iftikhar Ahmed tried to show magic with the bat in order to achieve the target but he was dismissed by Naveen, who also removed the batter no 10, sealing maiden victory for Zalmi.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and elected to bat first. They racked up a fight total of 179 runs for Multan Sultans. Babar Azam scored 31 in an effort to build a strong opening stand but his partner Saim Ayub was dismissed for seven in early blow to Zalmi.

Haseebullah Khan joined the skipper and displayed fireworks with the bat as he smashed fiery 37 off 18. The middle order and tail order kept putting scores on the board, helping their side to build a fighting total for the home side.
Sultans’ David Willey, Mohammad Ali and Usama Mir took two wickets each.
