Maryam Nawaz vacates NA-119 seat, retains PP-159

Shehbaz, Hamza, Rana Tanveer, Ahsan Iqbal, Owais Leghari, Jamal Kamal to leave provincial seats

LAHORE (Dunya News) - PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz has vacated the National Assembly seat in NA-119 constituency.

She, however, retains PP-159 seat. 

According to party sources, Maryam won elections in NA-119 and PP-159 from Lahore. She sent a letter of withdrawal from NA-119 to the Election Commission of Pakistan. The ECP will conduct by-election on this seat. 

Before the session of the Punjab Assembly, a meeting of the parliamentary party of Muslim League-N Punjab was held, which was chaired by Maryam Nawaz. 

Earlier, the PML-N directed the senior leadersh, except Maryam Nawaz, to leave the provincial seats. 

PML-N sources said Shehbaz Sharif would leave the provincial seats of Kasur and Lahore and Hamza Shehbaz the provincial seat of Lahore. 

They said Sardar Ghulam Abbas would leave the provincial seat of Chakwal and Rana Tanveer of Sheikhupura. They said Ahsan Iqbal would leave the provincial seat of Narowal and Sardar Owais Leghari of Dera Ghazi Khan. Jam Kamal will quit Lasbela seat. 

It may be recalled that after elections held on Feb 8, the first session of the Punjab Assembly is being held in Lahore today (Friday). 

The speaker of the provincial assembly will administer oath to the newly-elected members. 

MARYAM TO BE ELECTED PUNJAB CM WITH TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY: AZMA BOKHARI 

PML-N leader Azma Zahid Bokhari said Maryam Nawaz would be elected the Punjab chief minister with a two-thirds majority. 

Speaking to media persons outside the Punjab Assembly, Bokhari said Maryam Nawaz would be the first woman chief minister of Pakistan. She said her leader favoured empowering the women. 

Bokhari said Maryam stood by the party in difficult times. She spoke truth before the tyrant. The PML-N leader said Maryam would be elected the chief minister with a two-thirds majority. 

She further said Maryam Nawaz would deliver her first speech after being elected CM to highlight future course of action. Her cabinet would be short and she had a simple roadmap - welfare of the masses.
