No strategy in place to suspend internet service: Sindh minister

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Caretaker Sindh Information Minister Ahmed Shah on Friday said that those who wanted to sabotage the Feb 8 elections would be disappointed.

Addressing a press conference, he deliberated on general elections and said more than one billion rupees were being spent on CCTV cameras outside every polling station. He said that section 144 had been imposed and there was no strategy on the table to suspend the internet service.

“Riots and fake polling will be monitored, wireless computer systems have been installed,” he said.

He stated funds for the election arrangements had been released while 6,000 army and ranger troops would be on duty. The election security planning was done in the lights of ISI and IB reports.

“Mobalisation will be started on Feb 5. We are not arresting or releasing anyone because there are Supreme Court, High Court and Election Commission of Pakistan for this purpose,” he highlighted, saying this is up to the courts to give verdicts about the candidates.

He said the caretaker government was supporting the election process and those who wanted to sabotage the process will be disappointed.
