Remembering the legacy of Razi Akhtar Shauq: A maestro in Urdu poetry and drama

Shauq’s 25th death anniversary being observed today

KARACHI (Web Desk) - The 25th death anniversary of distinguished Urdu poet and playwright Razi Akhtar Shauq is being observed today (Monday).

He was born as Khawaja Razi-ul-Hassan Ansari in Saharanpur in 1933 and adopted the pen name of ‘Shauq’.

He got his B.A degree from Jamia Usmania.

Shauq later moved to Pakistan after the partition of India, and permanently settled in Karachi.

Razi Akhtar Shauq earned his M.A. degree from the University of Karachi and initiated his professional career from Radio Pakistan.

Notably, he authored numerous memorable dramas under the title 'Studio Number Nine' at Radio Pakistan Karachi.

Razi Akhtar Shauq's poetic collections, including 'Mere Mausam Mere Khwab' and 'Just,' have left an indelible mark on Urdu literature.

In the final days of his life, Razi Akhtar Shauq battled heart disease and ultimately passed away on January 22, 1999, in Karachi.
