ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry and his group has boycotted general elections going to be held on Feb 08.
Through a letter sent to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the former PTI leader said general elections were going to be held in grave violation of the Constitution.
He referred to a poetic verse of famous Punjab poet Syed Waris Shah and said the elections were being staged to eliminate opponents and give favour to their blue eyed and chosen ones.
Former minister said election exercise without really electing people in a democratic way was a futile exercise.
He said he was arrested just to force him to withdraw from election. Fawad said people of his group were arrested and threatened of dire consequences.
Without any solid reasons their nomination papers were rejected, said Fawad, and added his brother's nomination papers were accepted but then he was implicated in false NAB case along with me.
Fawad said power to rule was a trust meant to be transferred to the people of Pakistan in a democratic way as guaranteed by the Constitution and that transfer should be made through elections.
He said the Constitution of Pakistan was anchored by a true democracy. It may be recalled that former minister was barred from taking part in election from NA 60 and 61 (Jhelum).
