Iconic writer Munnu Bhai's death anniversary today

He also established Sundas Foundation for children suffering from thalassemia

LAHORE (Web Desk) - The sixth death anniversary of renowned columnist, poet, and playwright Munnu Bhai is being observed today (Friday).

Munnu Bhai, whose real name was Munir Ahmed Qureshi, was born in 1933 in Abbottabad. He graduated from Gordon College, Rawalpindi, and held various administrative positions in different newspapers.

Munnu Bhai had a passion for poetry from his childhood, and over time, this passion grew into a blazing flame.

In 1982, Munnu Bhai wrote the drama 'Sona Chandi' for PTV, which gained immense popularity. His other notable dramas include 'Dasht' and 'Ashiana.'

In addition to dramas, he wrote thousands of columns.

Among Munnu Bhai's famous literary works are 'Mohabbat Ki Ek Sau Nazmein,' 'Jangal Udaas Hai,' and 'Insani Manzar Nama.'

Munnu Bhai laid foundation of an organisation named 'Sundas Foundation' for children suffering from thalassemia, where he served as the chairman.

His contributions to journalism and literature were acknowledged with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for outstanding services.

Munnu Bhai departed from this world on January 19, 2018, and rests in peace in Lahore.
