SJC hearing against Justice Mazahar Naqvi due today

Justice Mazahar Naqvi, resigned from his designation last week.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will hold hearing against former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mazahar Naqvi, on Monday (today).

It may be noted that the former judge had resigned from his post last week.

The federal government has filed an appeal against the decision of the SJC not to take action against the retired judges in the SJC during the last hearing.

Meanwhile, the SJC has decided to continue proceedings despite his resignation.

The SJC, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, adjourned the proceedings against him until general elections.

Mazahar Naqvi had pleaded for his "open" trial which had been accepted unanimously.

The SJC launched proceedings after several misconduct complaints were filed against him during the tenure of former chief justice Umar Ata Bandial, who had had tasked Justice Sardar Tariq Masood to give his opinion.

Mian Dawood, a Lahore-based lawyer, was the first to file complaint in which Mazahar Naqvi was accused of financial irregularities, especially the transaction of a plot located in a posh area of the provincial capital.
