Sheikh Rashid launches election campaign from Lal Haveli

Says ‘pen and inkpot’, AML electoral symbol, will win with a thumping majority on Feb 8

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and former interior minister, officially kicked off his election campaign for the NA-56 constituency from Lal Haveli on Saturday.

Waving to his supporters from a roofless vehicle that emerged from Lal Haveli, Rashid confidently declared, "The electoral symbol of 'pen and inkpot' will win with a thumping majority on Feb 8."

Wearing a white turban, Rashid expressed his belief that constituents who prioritise voting on principles would undoubtedly choose the Awami Muslim League.

In a statement issued, the former minister voiced his concerns about his ally, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which has fielded candidates against him and his nephew, Sheikh Rashid Shaique.

"People for whom I went on a 40-day 'chilla' [seclusion] have brought election candidates against me, but I am not annoyed with them," Rashid stated, adding that "I am the one who has suffered more after the PTI founder."

Despite facing 15 registered cases against him following the events of May 9, Rashid maintained his composure. "I am not annoyed with anyone, and I do not have any quarrels with anyone either," he added.

Rashid also mentioned that his nephew, Sheikh Rashid Shaique, would launch his election campaign from the NA-57 constituency.
