KARACHI (Web Desk) - The death anniversary of veteran Pakistani musician and sarangi player Ustad Bundu Khan is being observed today (Saturday).
He was born in Delhi in the family of musicians in 1880. He started playing sarangi when he was just eight years old.
Ustad Bundu Khan played sarangi from All India Radio when it first started broadcasting in 1935.
He had mastered more than 500 Ragas.
Bundu Khan was also known as musical theorist as he wrote a book on music which was published simultaneously in both Urdu and Hindi languages.
He migrated to Karachi after partition and became associated with Radio Pakistan. He died on January 13, 1955.
Ustad Bundu Khan continued playing sarangi from all the radio stations of Pakistan until his death in 1955.
He was also awarded Pride of Performance posthumously in 1985 by the government of Pakistan.
