LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the authorities to seal the factories causing air pollution.
Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa appeared in the court of Justice Shahid Kareem on the petition filed by a common citizen Farooq Haroon.
The LHC gave a ruling to seal the factories emitting black smoke. “The factories would not be unsealed till the submission of affidavit by the owners,” ruled the LHC. It added that the factories would be demolished in case of non-compliance.
The commissioner Lahore told the court that indiscriminate action would be taken against the smoke-emitting vehicles.
“We have directed the traffic police to impound the vehicles causing smog in the city,” said commissioner.
The court said in its remarks that we are now on the right track but the PDMA was earlier in slumber. “Take the picture of the vehicle that is causing smog. We’ll take concrete steps before the smog season from next year,” the court ruled.
Commissioner Lahore told the court that government has taken steps to promote cycling in the city and we are in contact with the TEPA to prepare a separate track for cycling.
Justice Shahid Kareem directed the government to include the private sector in this venture.
The hearing was later adjourned for November 7.
