Is Afridi set to get role in Pakistan cricket uplift?

The premier also asked PCB chief to hold consultation with senior players

(Web Desk) – Former captain Shahid Afridi on Thursday held a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar to discuss matters related to cricket.

The premier, during the meeting, urged the legendary all-rounder to play his role for improving cricket in the country.

PM Kakar also held a telephonic discussion with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee chairman Zaka Ashraf and asked him to hold consultations with the senior players for uplift of cricket.

The meeting comes as the national cricket team faced massive criticism for their unimpressive show in the ongoing World Cup 2022.

The Babar Azam-led side faced four consecutive defeats before making a comeback in recent match against Bangladesh.

In late October, Shahid Afridi had expressed resentment over poor captaincy by Babar Azam after Afghanistan hammered Pakistan in historic triumph of eight wickets on October 23. It was for the first time that Afghanistan beat Pakistan in a World Cup match.

“Being captain is an hounour but it comes with challenges,” the cricket great had said, adding that it was the skipper who is praised or criticised for the team’s performance.

The former all-rounder had also raised questions over the body language showed by Babar Azam in the match.
