Afghanistan produce epic upset as England wickets keep tumbling

England have one win from their two games in the current edition of the World Cup

DELHI (Web Desk) – In the 13th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan have produced a great upset as England wickets kept tumbling while chasing the target of 285 runs. 

Afghan team have defeated England by 69 runs with Rashid Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz as star performers.

England were all out for 215 with Harry Brook scoring 66. Both spinners from Afghanistan Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman created a lot of difficulties for English batters. 

Earlier, Afghanistan set a target of 285 runs against England at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. 

Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz's blitzing inning gave a hope of big total for Aghan team. However, Afghan team tumble after Gurbaz was run out and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi’s stumps were shattered by Root after scoring 14 runs.

Azmatullah Omarzai became Liam Livingstone’s first victim, caught by Chris Woakes for 19 runs studded with one six and one four.

Afghanistan lost third wicket at 122 when opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz who was in devastating form and looked set for a big total ran himself out at personal score of 80 off 57 balls. He has hit four sixes and eight fours in his whirlwind innings.

Rahmat Shah was the second batsman falling to Rashid for just 3 runs. He was stumped by wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.

Spinner Adil Rashid drew first blood when he captured the scalp of opener Ibrahim Zadran who was caught by Jo Root. He had scored 28 runs with the help of three shot to the boundary.

Earlier, England won the toss and put Afghanistan in to bat. They had scored 102 runs without losing a wicket at the end of 13 overs.

England have one win from their two games in the current edition of the world event, whereas Afghanistan have lost both their games and are yet to get off the mark in the competition.
