LAHORE (Dunya News) - Former police inspector Abid Boxer has been booked in another case of extortion and kidnap for ransom.
The Baghbanpura police registered a case against Boxer on the complainant of hotel owner Ahmad Ali who alleged that up to five accomplices of Boxer came to his hotel and demanded Rs20 million extortion. The armed suspects dialed Boxer's cell number and forced the complainant to talk to the former.
The former cop demanded Rs20m and threatened to kill in case of non-compliance. According to the complainant Boxer and his accomplices again demanded extortion after few days and later abducted him.
The suspects received Rs1 million from the victim's family and released him on assurances of receiving the remaining amount later.
A day earlier, police had registered a case against Abid Boxer on the allegation of escaping custody of law enforcers by opening fire.
The case was registered under terror and other charges.
According to the FIR, a police team conducted a raid to arrest former inspector Abid Boxer and his gunmen opened fire on police. When he was eventually arrested, police said, he snatched a rifle from a constable and opened fire on the raiding team.
He fled during the raid but police arrested his accomplices Hameedullah and Ismail.
Boxer's family, however, alleged that Abid is in the police custody and the government should protect him.
