Says the Supreme Court has already explained the Article 62 (I) (F) of the Constitution
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The step taken by the government to abolish lifetime disqualification in the Election Act has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
A citizen Mashkoor Hussain, through his counsel Nadeem Sarwar Advocate, has filed a writ petition in the Lahore Hight Court making Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), federal government and others as parties.
The petitioner has taken the stance that after amending the Election Act, government abolished the lifetime disqualification and reduced it to only five years.
He contended that the Supreme Court had already explained the Article 62 (I) (F) of the Constitution. He said after apex court’s clarification, amending the act was a clear violation of Article 175 (Section C) of the Constitution.
Hussain appealed to the high court to annul the amendment made in the Election Act.
