DG Khan explosion: Authorities suspect sound was ‘sonic boom’
(WEB DESK) - A powerful explosion was heard in Dera Ghazi Khan and its surrounding areas on Friday afternoon, triggering panic among residents, a private media outlet has reported.
The district administration suspected that the sound was a “sonic boom”.
Video footages showed people evacuating the area as rescue and police teams rushed to the site.
Reporters covering the incident said the explosion was so powerful that it was heard up to 25 kilometres from DG Khan.
As the incident trended on social media platform X erstwhile Twitter, some X handles, believed to be of Indians, speculated that a missile test might have gone awry or a blast occurred near the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) facility.

The media outlet cites DG Khan Commissioner’s spokesperson Mazhar Sheerani as saying, “Departments concerned have submitted an initial report.” He said no loss of life or any damage was reported, adding that there were no reports of any kind of terrorism, vandalism, accident or damage either.
The spox said that the sound barrier of a warship perhaps broke.
DG Khan Commissioner Nasir Mehmood in a video statement on social media said the noise was likely caused by the ‘breakage of sound barrier’, adding that such incidents were normal.
