Police arrest Ranipur's spiritual figure for torturing 10-year-old maid to death

The suspect denied murdering the girl

KARACHI (Web Desk) - The Khairpur police have arrested Pir Asad Shah Jeelani -- a member of the influential Pirs of Ranipur -- for allegedly torturing 10-year-old maid to death.

The matter initially came to light after video clips of Fatima's body with severe torture marks went viral on social media. The video triggered outrage across the country.

The victim is stated to be daughter of Nadeem Ali Tharro, a resident of Ali Muhammad Tharro village in Naushehro Feroze district. The family is believed to be the followers of the spiritual figure.

Sukkur DIG Javed Soonharo Jiskani had directed Shikarpur SSP Rohal Khan Khoso and ASP Mohammad Nauman Zaffar to investigate the case.

Following the registration of an FIR, police arrested Pir Asad. The Ranipur police lodged the FIR under Sections 302 (Qatl-i-amd; premeditated murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the PPC on the complaint of the deceased child’s mother.

The suspect has already denied murdering the child, saying the girl had complained of pain in her stomach and she was being treated at his home. Jeelani claimed that the girl died during the treatment.

The SHO and the doctor concerned have already been arrested and put behind the bars for concealing facts.

Earlier, Dunya News reported that the 10-year-old girl working at the mansion of a faith healer died due to alleged torture. The video of Nadeem Ali's daughter Fatima, a resident of Naushehro Feroze, went viral on social media.

In a CCTV footage obtained from the place, the girl is seen lying on the floor in agony and two women are also present. The girl was alleged buried without postmortem.

Sources said police were also trying to suppress the matter. Ali said his daughter died due to natural causes. SSP Rohail Khoso, on the other hand, said an inquiry team had been formed under the ASP.

Initial investigation revealed that the girl's death was natural, though doctors said there were signs of blood clotting on the girl's body.

According to the Khairpur SSP, further investigation is going on and legal action will be taken against any person if evidence of death by violence is found.
