ISLAMABAD/LAHORE (Dunya News) – Police crackdown on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top leaders continued as senior vice president Shireen Mazari and central Punjab President Yasimn Rashid were taken into custody during late night raids at their residences in Islamabad and Lahore on Wednesday, Dunya News reported.

According to sources, police arrested Dr Yasmin around 6:30am on Friday from her residence in Lahore. It was claimed that she had gone into hiding after crackdown on PTI leadership. But she appeared publicly on Thursday night.

PTI leader Andleeb Abbas confirmed the arrest of Dr Yasmin in Lahore. It has not yet been reported under what charges she was arrested.

Earlier, the police entered the house of the former federal minister located in E/7 area of the federal capital by jumping over the walls and arrested her. The PTI leader has been shifted to an undisclosed location after the arrest.

Shireen Mazari's daughter Iman Mazari in a message on the social media website Twitter claimed that around 50 policemen raided their house and arrested her mother. Iman also claimed that the doors of their house were broken by the policemen.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case, several PTI leaders have been taken into custody.

Shireen Mazari's arrest was addition to the tally as several PTI leaders including former Punjab governor Omer Sarfraz Cheema, PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former federal minister Ali Muhammad Khan and Ejaz Chaudhry were already apprehended by police in the past three days.

-- Imran Khan's release --

PTI Chairman Imran Khan was released on the orders of the Supreme Court on Thursday after his arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case was declared "illegal" and authorities were directed to release him "immediately".

The apex court then sent the PTI chief to the Police Lines Guest House, allowing him to spend the night with his family and close friends.

The court also ordered the former prime minister to appear before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday, which is the same court that previously declared his arrest to be legal.
