QUETTA (Web Desk) - Bar council’s representatives from across the country have expressed their support for the Constitution and have warned nationwide protests if the Supreme Court does not revoke its stay order, which was issued against a bill limiting the powers of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), by May 2.
On April 13, the apex court stayed the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023. Despite the stay order, the bill was enacted as an act by the federal government on April 21.
Earlier, representatives from various bar councils gathered at the Balochistan High Court to attend a lawyers' convention, where they criticised the CJP's decision of not constituting a larger bench to hear the polls case. Legal representatives also warned of countrywide protests if the Supreme Court does not annul the stay order by May 2.
