(Reuters) An image appearing to show former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton apprehended by armed forces is digitally altered. The original photograph shows soldiers escorting a detainee in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in January 2002.
Some social media users say the altered image appears to show Clinton apprehended by two police officers, walking with their backs to the photographer.
The image is altered. An online search reveals that the original photograph can be seen on the Reuters Pictures website and is dated to Jan. 11, 2002. It shows police escorting a detainee to their cell at the naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (here).
The unaltered image has been published by various media outlets including NBC News and Business Insider (www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna5261632), (here).
Meanwhile, an authentic image of Clinton was superimposed into the previous photograph and was captured on Feb. 24, 2016. It was taken by Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst and shows Clinton briefly losing her balance as she arrived for a tour of SC STRONG, a home for ex-offenders and substance abusers in North Charleston, South Carolina (here).
