MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – The death anniversary of Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Jalil Ahmed Andrabi is being observed on Monday.

It has been 27 years since the martyrdom of the prominent Kashmiri Hurriyat leader.

Jalil Ahmed Andrabi, a martyr of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, was a pioneer of human rights and freedom movement. Major Avtar Singh of Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian army had imprisoned him on the pretext of investigation on March 28, 1996.

Two weeks later on March 27, the sacked body of the Kashmiri Hurriyat leader was found in the river Jhelum near Kursu Rajbagh area of Srinagar.

The post-mortem report also confirmed the worst torture on Jalil Andrabi.

Indian authorities sent Major Avtar Singh to America instead of punishing him after the case was highlighted in media. The extrajudicial killing of Jalil Andrabi exposed the so-called Indian democracy.
