Lahore traffic police to register cases for one-way violation

LAHORE – The traffic police have decided to register cases against commuters for one-way violations, besides issuing them tickets in the capital city of Punjab.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Asad Malhi told media that cases would be registered under section 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He said Rs2,000 challan were being issued for one-way violation.

More than 200,000 challans had been issued for one-way violation during the running year, but citizens continued to violate the rules, the CTO said.

He also vowed to curb the traffic violations in the city in order to protect lives of citizens.

The CTO further said that vehicles without fitness certificates will not be allowed to enter the Punjab capital, adding that heavy vehicles had intensified the smog problem.

He also distributed helmets among motorcycle riders at the Liberty Chowk where he announced to adopt zero-tolerance policy against riders for not wearing helmets.
