CHRISTCHURCH (Dunya News) - Mohammad Nawaz took a beating with the ball but his cameo with the bat has helped Pakistan get over the line. With his prolific 20-ball 45, Pakistan beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Thursday.

Pakistan chased a decent target of 174 runs with one ball to spear.

Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan was solid as ever, nearly batting through the innings, but had it not been for Nawaz’s hitting, Pakistan might have fallen short. Captain Babar Azam was into the runs as well, making a fifty and laying the foundation for the chase along with Rizwan.

Babar scored 55 off 40 balls while Rizwan’s clinical 69 was off 56 balls.

Nawaz s innings at a strike-rate of 225 helped him complete a personal redemption having conceded 37 runs in three overs in the first innings. He was the most expensive bowler in the first innings of the game where fifties from Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan helped Bangladesh score their highest total of the competition.

Couple of wickets late in the chase brought Bangladesh back into the contest but Nawaz held his nerve to take Pakistan home with a ball to spare. So no consolation win for Bangladesh and Pakistan go into the final with confidence under their belt.

Pakistan will now take on New Zealand for final of the tri-series tomorrow (Friday), October 14 in Christchurch.
