Pakistan stands by Afghanistan in this hour of need, PM telephones Afghan interim PM
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday telephoned Acting Prime Minister of the Interim Afghan Government Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund and conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with Afghan people in the wake of earthquake.
During the telephonic conversation, the prime minister expressed deep sympathy and condolences from the government and people of Pakistan over the loss of precious lives and damage caused by the devastating earthquake that struck Afghanistan on June 22.
Shehbaz Sharif prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and speedy recovery of the injured. He reiterated that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with its Afghan brothers in this hour of need.
The premier also shared details regarding the relief efforts mounted by Pakistan to provide emergency assistance to Afghanistan, including dispatch of emergency medicines, tents, tarpaulins and blankets.
He said that Ghulam Khan and Angor Ada border crossing points have been opened for the transportation of Afghans for treatment in Pakistani hospitals, adding that Pakistan will continue to support the neighboring country in the days to come.
Sharif underscored the close fraternal relations between the two peoples and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to provide assistance to the Afghan people facing a dire humanitarian situation.
He also highlighted the measures taken by Govt of Pakistan to facilitate trade and movement of people through effective border management. He added that Pakistan was committed to strengthening bilateral ties to promote the cause of peace, progress and prosperity.
