Only 23pc Of film directors are female
(Reuters) - Females make up just 23% of all movie directors, according to a new study by the European Audiovisual Observatory. The group surveyed crews working on European feature films produced and released in Europe between 2016 and 2020.
Their research also found that only 33% of working producers and just 27% of screenwriters are female. The gender gap was most evident among cinematographers and film composers. Just 9% of active cinematographers and 10% of active film composers are women, according to the study.
The EAO’s research found that female directors had a greater presence in documentary films making up 29% of directors. Comparatively, females made up just 19% of directors for live-action films and just 16% for animated movies.
