Penalty for fake news against the state is two years in jail and a fine of Dh200,000: UAE
DUBAI – (Web Desk): With the ever growing influence of social media, it has become a common hazard to receive misleading content. People have become cautions of fake news and yearn for a method to distinguish between real and rumors.
While in United Arab Emirates (UAE) the authorities have brushed their laws against the spreading of fake news, as the punishment announced for sharing any such content or misleading information that alters the public opinion against the state is two years in jail and a fine of Dh200,000.
On 2 January a warning was generated for the people via a video posted by the governmental authorities on all official social media outlets, giving a head up of penalty in case of any false news.
