(Reuters) - Footage of a series of explosions from a fictional Chinese TV show has been shared online as if showing the September violence unleashed between Myanmar’s ruling military and local militias.
“Lunglerh village in #Myanmar’s Chin State bordering Thingsai of #Mizoram being bombed on September 10,” reads part of a Facebook post, with the video that has been shared over 100 times.
The clip has been circulating online since at least Aug. 17, 2019, also tricking users into believing it shows an attack in Myanmar. However, the video shows footage from a Chinese military drama.
Reuters found the same scene featured in a trailer for the Chinese drama entitled: “Glory of The Special Forces”, which was posted to YouTube.
The clip, in much higher quality, is also visible in a behind-the-scenes compilation published by production company YOUHUG MEDIA.
