Motorway Police bans vehicles with gas cylinder on major highways
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Tuesday decided to ban vehicles with gas cylinders from travelling on country’s major highways.
It has been ordered to remove gas cylinders from all the commercial vehicles. It added that LPG along with CNG cylinders in vehicles has also been banned.
The authorities have decided to take stern action against vehicle owners who will not remove the gas cylinders.
“Saving human lives is our common responsibility. Illegal measures cannot endanger human lives,” the inspector general (IG) of NHMP said.
This directive came following a road accident in Gujranwala in which a truck rammed into a minibus on a highway on Sunday. Many people were killed and several sustained burn injuries in a cylinder blast in a passenger van in Gujranwala.
A passenger van had met with a tragic accident near Shah Kot area of Cantt police station in Gujranwala. The cylinder exploded, setting the van on fire, killing 10 passengers and seriously injuring others.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed sorrow over the loss of precious human lives due to van fire in Gujranwala and demanded a report from Commissioner Gujranwala Division and RPO.
He ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked authorities to immediately conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit a report. Expressing heartfelt sympathy to the families of the deceased passengers, CM Usman Buzdar directed to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
