ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday expressed serious concerns over federal government s Electoral Reforms Amendment Bill.
The ECP has expressed reservations over the amendment of various clauses, including delimitation and electoral rolls. The PTI government has passed the Election Amendment Bill in the National Assembly for electoral reforms.
In a letter, the ECP has requested that the matter be brought to the notice of Prime Minister Imran Khan before presenting the bill in the Senate and also opposed the inclusion of the word open voting instead of secret voting.
The ECP said that the inclusion of the word open voting is a violation of Article 226 of the Constitution and the Supreme Court had given a clear opinion in this regard in the case related to the presidential reference. The powers of the ECP may be limited if the bill is implemented.
The matter should be brought to the notice of Prime Minister Imran Khan before introducing the bill in the Senate.
