ABU DHABI (Dunya News) – Karachi Kings set up a fighting 177-run target for Lahore Qalandars in the 27th match of sixth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
The highlight of Karachi Kings innings was an 88-run second wicket partnership between Babar Azam and Martin Guptill. Babar Azam departed after scoring 54 runs while Martin Guptill made 43 runs.
Imad Wasim and Danish Aziz then combined together and added 44 runs for the sixth wicket partnership to guide Karachi Kings to 176 for the loss of five wickets.
For Lahore Qalandars, Rashid Khan was the most successful bowler, claiming two wickets for 25 runs in his four overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Ahmed Daniyal and Muhammad Hafeez got one wicket each.
Karachi Kings have entered into a slump in the 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team, led by Imad Wasim, has slipped down to fifth in the points table and is in urgent need of a win.
The Kings are yet to win a game in the second leg of the tournament at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Their next match is against the Lahore Qalandars in the second of Thursday’s doubleheader.
The Karachi Kings have been heavily reliant on Babar Azam to produce the goods at the top of the order. In the previous game, the Pakistan captain was dismissed for a blob as the Kings managed only 108 in their 10 overs. But concerningly, even when Azam has notched up big fifties, the team has failed to give him the right support.
The Qalandars, on the other hand, have faltered in run-chases in the league. They have also lost their previous two matches. With two matches left, Sohail Akhtar and Co won’t want more hiccups.
The Lahore Qalandars aren t out of the woods yet. Currently third with five wins from eight games, Sohail Akhtar s men need to arrest a concerning form slump that has seen them lose games to Islamabad United and last-placed Quetta Gladiators.
