Anti-encroachment drive underway at Aladdin Park on SC's directives

KARACHI (Dunya News) – After order from Supreme Court of Pakistan, authorities have launched an anti-encroachment operation to demolish illegal buildings on the premises of the Aladdin Park.
Enraged at the operation, a large number of people staged a protest against the demolition. Police launched baton charge to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, a senior official while talking to media said that operation will be completed no matter what and a report will be submitted in Supreme Court tomorrow. No commercial activity is allowed in parks but a club and shopping mall have been constructed on 10 to 12 acres of total 52 acres of the park.
A day earlier, Supreme Court rejected pleas of affectees for compensation and halting anti-encroachment operation along Gujjar and Orangi drains.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case regarding the anti-encroachment drive at SC’s Karachi registry. The apex court revoked the stay orders and ordered government to continue the operation along nullahs ahead of monsoon season.
