Pakistan decides to procure 1 million doses of Pfizer's covid-19 vaccine

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Health Ministry has decided to procure one million doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine which are likely to arrive in Pakistan by August or September.
As per details, Pfizer has assured the government of providing the doses and Pakistan has also purchased 23 ultra-cold refrigerators for the company’s mRNA vaccine.
The health ministry has said that the vaccine, which has over 90 percent efficacy rate will be provided people with low immunity.
Earlier on Friday, over 100,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Pakistan via the COVAX scheme.
According to a statement by United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Pakistan, these vaccines will be used for Pakistan’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
It commended the Government of Pakistan and Ministry of National Health Services for the successful rollout of the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign, excellent arrangements at vaccination centers and inclusion of all above 18 years of age.
UNICEF Pakistan said that this shipment of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the second consignment of vaccines received by Pakistan under the COVAX scheme. Earlier this month, UNICEF had led the efforts to procure and deliver more than 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Pakistan on behalf of COVAX.
The statement further said that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and urged citizens to get registered in the vaccination campaign.
