100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine reach Pakistan under COVAX
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Over 100,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Pakistan via the COVAX scheme on Friday.
According to a statement by United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Pakistan, these vaccines will be used for Pakistan’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination campaign and shipments of Pfizer diluents and syringes will be arriving over the next two days.
It commended the Government of Pakistan and Ministry of National Health Services for the successful rollout of the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign, excellent arrangements at vaccination centers and inclusion of all above 18 years of age.
UNICEF Pakistan said that this shipment of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the second consignment of vaccines received by Pakistan under the COVAX scheme. Earlier this month, UNICEF had led the efforts to procure and deliver more than 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Pakistan on behalf of COVAX.
The statement further said that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and urged citizens to get registered in the vaccination campaign.
