Coronavirus outbreak: Shehbaz Sharif extends prayers for Indian people

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday has extended prayers for the people of India ‘devastated by covid-19’. In a post on social-networking website Twitter, the PML-N leader wrote, “Humanity transcends religion and nationality at a time of death and disease.”

Humanity transcends religion & nationality at a time of death & disease. Prayers for the people of India devastated by covid19. Hope better sense prevails & South Asian countries can focus on ensuring healthcare of our people instead of spending billions on destroying each other.

Hope better sense prevails and South Asian countries can focus on ensuring healthcare of our people instead of spending billions on destroying each other, he added. The reaction came after India’s capital New Delhi extended its lockdown as the country’s Covid-19 crisis grew with infections and deaths hitting record highs. The vast nation of 1.3 billion people recorded 349,691 fresh cases and 2,767 deaths -- the highest since the start of the pandemic. The northern megacity -- home to 20 million people and the worst-hit in India -- had imposed a weeklong lockdown on Monday as hospitals beds and oxygen supplies ran out.
