Money laundering reference: Shehbaz Sharif forwards case file to LHC CJ

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Qasim Khan on Monday has formed a three-member bench to hear money laundering case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif after one of the judges raised objection on granting him bail. According to details, Justice Ali Baqir Najfi will chair the bench.   The development came day after judges, who were hearing money laundering case, handed over their separate written verdicts on PML-N leader’s bail to the high court office.

Justice Asjad Javed in his dissenting note stated that fellow judge had approved the bail of Shehbaz Sharif despite his refusal whereas Justice Sarfraz Dogar told that the bail was granted on mutual consent.

Earlier, the release of Shehbaz Sharif on bail in money laundering case was halted after one of the judges hearing the matter raised objection. LHC judge Justice Asjad Javed had expressed disagreement over the ruling of granting bail to PML-N leader. Following this, the LHC CJ had dissolved the bench hearing National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.

Sources told that from next week, Justice Alia Neelum and Justice Farooq will hold proceedings on the cases.

On April 14, 2021, LHC had approved bail plea of Shehbaz Sharif in money laundering case.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court had directed the authorities to release him from Kot Lakhpat jail over two surety bonds of Rs5 million each.
