KP cuts down tenure of govt employees to 60 years
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved reduction in the tenure of government employees from 63 to 60 years, as well as the closure of schools in areas with over 5% positivity rate.
After the provincial cabinet meeting, Education Minister Shahram Tarakai, Kamran Bangash and Taimur Saleem Jhagra held a joint media briefing. Special Assistant for Information Kamran Bangash said that the meeting discussed issues related to education, health, tourism and employment and issued instructions to the Food Department for implementation of the Ramadan package.
Education Minister Shahram Tarakai said a task force meeting had decided that schools will remain closed in areas where coronavirus positivity rate is over 5%. Moreover, the NTS test for teacher recruitment has been canceled and there will be separate tests in each district.
Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra said that the tenure of government employees in KP has been approved as 60 years instead of 63 while early retirement age will be maintained. He clarified the provincial government was not abolishing any pension and that a committee will present its recommendations on pension rules.
He further said that those employees who are receiving pensions will continue to do so and that steps are being taken to improve the pension system.
Jhagra went on to say that amid the third wave of coronavirus, the public should remain careful. Restrictions will be imposed in some areas of the province after consulting with traders, he added.
The Health Minister advised citizens to get vaccinated by government approved vaccines, adding that the government is also starting walk-in vaccinations.
