Pakistan close day-three at 129-6, lead by 200 runs

Pakistan had scored 272 runs in first innings.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Pakistan were 129-6 at close on the third day of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Saturday, leading by 200 runs.

Mohammad Rizwan was 28 not out and Hasan Ali yet to get off the mark as the home team were undone by spinners George Linde 3-12 and Keshav Maharaj 2-74.

South Africa were dismissed for 201 in their first innings in reply to Pakistan s 272.

Azhar Ali and captain Babar Azam were unbeaten on 22 and 5 respectively. Kagiso Rabada sent Imran Butt back to the pavilion on naught while Keshav Maharaj dismissed Abid Ali on 13.

Earlier, South Africa skipper Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma resumed the third day on 24 and 15 respectively but the captain could add only five runs to his overnight score and was bowled by Shaheen Afridi on 29.

Wiaan Mulder scored quick 33 before he was run out by Shaheen/ Mohammad Rizwan. Hasan Ali bowled George Linde for a run-a-ball 21, Keshav Maharaj (1) and Anrich Nortje (0), taking his wickets tally to five in the innings. Kagiso Rabada (0) was run out by Abid Ali.

On Friday, Hasan Ali picked up two wickets of Dean Elgar (15) and Rassie van der Dussen (0) on consecutive balls. Faheem Ashraf trapped Faf du Plessis lbw on 17 while Nauman Ali got the final wicket of the day and sent Aiden Markram (32) back to the pavilion.

Faheem Ashraf was the top scorer for Pakistan and smashed a brilliant 78 not out. Babar Azam scored 77 while Fawad Alam registered 45. South Africa’s fast bowler Anrich Nortje took 5-56 while Keshav Maharaj finished with 3-90.

Babar Azam had won the toss and, retaining his winning combination from first Test, opted to bat first. South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder replaced Lungi Ngidi. The hosts had defeated the Proteas in the first Test at the National Stadium Karachi (NSK) by 7 wickets.
