Nine brick kilns using old technology closed in Chunian

All brick kilns in chunian equipped with eco-friendly zigzag technology remained operative.

CHUNIAN (Dunya News) –Punjab environment department on Sunday have closed at least nine brick kilns using old technology to make the bricks in Chunian, Dunya News reported.

According to details, action has been taken against kilns causing environmental pollution in Chunian. All brick kilns in chunian equipped with eco-friendly zigzag technology given permission to remain operative.

It is pertinent to mention here that most of the brick kilns in Punjab province have been built on conventional bull trench kiln models that used to run over coal, plastic, tyres and other raw material creating thick dark smoke into the atmosphere.

According to The Lancet (a health journal) research, air pollution was causing 135,000 deaths every year including many children in Pakistan. Moreover, the air pollution has also increased the susceptibility of sensitive groups of people mainly lungs and heart disease patients to catch chronic respiratory disease leading to death.
