OIC condemns incarceration of Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi
(Web Desk) - Organization of Islamic Cooperation has condemned incarceration of Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi and her two female associates in Tihar Jail in India on baseless charges.
OIC s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, in a statement, rebuked the prolonged illegal and inhuman of detention of Asiya Andrabi and others under the controversial Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
The Commission reiterated its strong concerns over the growing incidents of illegal detentions of human rights and political activists, members of civil society and journalists by the Indian security forces under the impugned draconian laws such as the Armed Special Forces Power Act, Public Safety Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
The Commission urged the United Nations, OIC countries, and international human rights community to lean on the Indian government to immediately release Ms. Andrabi and her associates and all other political prisoners.
It emphasized on ensuring a free and fair trial, revocation of discriminatory laws, and restoration of all fundamental freedoms of Kashmiris. It demanded immediately halting of gross and systematic human rights violations in IIOJK and access to UN and OIC fact-finding missions and establishment of a Commission of Inquiry under UN auspices.
The Commission stressed the need for implementing relevant UN Security Council and OIC resolutions allowing Kashmiris to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination.
