WELLINGTON (AFP) - New Zealand were sweating on the availability of Kane Williamson for the second Test against the West Indies after their talismanic captain left the squad Thursday to be with his pregnant wife.
Williamson, ranked the second best batsman in the world, set up New Zealand s comprehensive first Test victory with a career best 252.
But he said during the Test his wife Sarah was due to give birth in mid to late December and a decision on his playing availability would be known then.
New Zealand Cricket said in a statement Williamson had left the squad to be with his wife but "at this stage he is still available" for the second Test starting in Wellington on Friday.
As a precaution, the uncapped Devon Conway has been drafted into the Black Caps squad as batting cover.
