IHC rejects petition seeking ban on political, religious gatherings due to COVID-19

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected a petition seeking a ban on political and religious gatherings due to the global coronavirus outbreak.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that everyone is involved in politics, if the court order is not being followed then why should we intervene. It is up to Parliament and the executive authorities to play their part in mobilizing the nation to address the challenges of coronavirus.

According to details, the petition seeking ban on political and religious gatherings due to coronavirus has been rejected by the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court.

In a recent judgment, the court ruled that the decisions of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) must be implemented. It is the responsibility of the state to implement the Coronavirus SOPs.

The Chief Justice further said that there is a parliament here, there are executives, no one is following the court order and everyone is involved in politics, so why should we intervene.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that civil society is also not fulfilling its responsibility, the petitioner should trust the parliament, only then a solution can be found, such cases should not come to court.
