Breed extinction: Only one Malayan tapir left in Asia

(Dunya News) – Only one male member of rare breed of Malayan tapir has left in entire Asia.

According to details, the animal, which was present in large number in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma and Thailand, has now been vanished due to breed extinction.

Malayan tapir lives in dense forest and eats 130 kinds of plants. It weighs between 250 and 320 kg (550 and 710 lb), however, some adults can also touch the mark of 540 kg.

The growth period of the Malayan tapir is about 390–395 days, after which a one offspring, weighing around 15 pounds (6.8 kg), is born.
