Shahzad Akbar rejects impression of targeting opposition in anti-corruption drive

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Adviser to Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Barrister Mirza Shahzad Akbar on Thursday said that the impression that only those belonging to the opposition are being held accountable in the country is baseless as those involved in the sugar inquiry belonged to all parties.
Addressing a joint press conference along with Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in Lahore on Thursday, he said that influential people had been occupying the government land, adding that mafia is part of the Sicilian Mafia mentioned by the Supreme Court in its verdict.
Akbar went on to say that there has been a 532 percent increase in recoveries over the last 27 months, adding that the land worth Rs181 billion has been retrieved from the land grabbers and the looted money is being deposited in the national exchequer.
“No one in the Punjab would be given National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) by the federal government,” he said and added influential people had been occupying government land.
Regarding the return of former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, he said that the government is negotiating with Britain to deport Sharif.
