Prime Minister approves establishment of 120 new accountability courts

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Following the directive of the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the establishment of 120 new accountability courts.

According to details, the Supreme Court had recently adjourned the hearing of the suo motu case regarding establishment of new accountability courts and ordered the establishment of 120 new accountability courts within 30 days. The apex court had also sought a report on NAB rules from the law ministry.

Today, following the Supreme Court directive, Prime Minister Imran Khan approved the establishment of 120 new accountability courts. In the first phase, 30 accountability courts will be set up. The new special courts will hear rape cases of children, women and transgenders.

According to a spokesperson of the Law Ministry, the new courts are being set up in phases due to financial constraints, the Prime Minister has directed the Finance and Establishment Divisions to extend full cooperation in this regard. The spokesperson said that along with the order to create vacancies and provide immediate funds, the Prime Minister also approved in principle the establishment of separate courts for cases of rape. The Prime Minister directed the Law Ministry to submit a comprehensive plan after consulting with concerned authorities.
