Steps should be taken according to law to arrest fugitives: Chairman NAB

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has said that the national body is committed to bring corrupt elements to justice.

According to details, a statement issued by the NAB said that the chairman has convened a high level meeting in which the deputy chairman, prosecutor general and DGs will participate.

A statement issued by the chairman said that NAB was the only body to sign a memorandum of understanding with China to oversee CPEC. In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Higher Education Commission to make the youth aware of the ill effects of corruption.

He said that Pakistan is the first chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum, which is recognition of the excellent performance of NAB. Excerpts from the NAB Ordinance 1999 give the NAB the responsibility to eradicate corruption and recover stolen money.

The statement said that NAB has received Rs466 billion looted from corrupt elements since its inception and deposited it in the national exchequer. The conviction rate in NAB cases is better than any other anti-corruption agency in the country.

The statement clarified that the NAB does not belong to any political party, group or individual but only to the state of Pakistan.

The Chairman NAB has directed that steps be taken in accordance with the law to arrest the fugitives. Corrupt elements should be brought to justice, where the law will make its own way.
