Inflation skyrockets despite PM's notice after notice

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken notice of the rising inflation 11 times in the last two years but the prices of basic necessities could not be reduced. The people are still waiting for real action against hoarders and mafias.

During 2020, Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of rising inflation six times. A day before the Tiger Force was tasked with monitoring prices, the PM said in a tweet that he had convened a meeting on Monday on the inflation situation.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had convened a meeting of the Price Control Committee on May 14, 2020, also on February 25 this year, a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister reviewed the steps taken to provide relief and cheap necessities to the poor and salaried class.

In a tweet on February 9, 2020, the Prime Minister took note of the criticism of the government over rising inflation. The economic team was instructed to reduce the prices of flour, sugar, rice and pulses by 15% in 15 days.

Earlier, in a cabinet meeting on January 29, the Prime Minister expressed concerns over inflation and directed to provide maximum relief to the people.

Addressing a function in Islamabad on January 20, the Prime Minister acknowledged that there was a sense of inflation in the country. Every week we see how we can control inflation.

Also on January 17, the Prime Minister had called for proposals to reduce food prices. Earlier, in the previous year, 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken notice of the rising prices at least five times.

On October 20, 2019, the Prime Minister expressed his frustration over the issue of inflation, while on October 18, a meeting was held to review the prices of food items and control inflation.

On July 31, 2019, the Prime Minister took notice of the high price of Nan-Roti and ordered to restore the old prices. The Prime Minister directed to launch a special campaign on June 27, 2019 against rising inflation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of the increase in the prices of medicines on April 11, 2019 and directed steps to reduce the prices.
