Nawaz Sharif's speech being celebrated in India: Federal Ministers
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – PTI Federal Ministers have expressed strong reservations over Nawaz Sharif’s speech in yesterday’s APC, saying that his statements are being celebrated across the border in India as attacks on the Pakistan Army.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the opposition’s 34 amendments were actually an NRO, aimed at the wrapping up of NAB. The opposition believed that the government would approach them for FATF legislation but they faced embarrassment at the joint session of Parliament.
The Foreign Minister said that those who preached imposing strict lockdowns will now hold mass rallies in January. He also criticized Nawaz for his APC speech targeting every state institution which is being touted as Nawaz’s second coming by India.
Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar said the Army as an institution was brazenly attacked in the APC, which the Indian media loved. India is saying that Nawaz Sharif has made a political comeback by attacking Pak Army, he added.
Asad Umar said that Nawaz Sharif was not new to this kind of behaviour, he acts out against any institution that is not under his control, not even sparing the judiciary yesterday.
Asad Umar said that the FATF legislation has nothing to do with any political party, but the opposition still tried to leverage it in its favor. The opposition’s 34 amendments were outright blackmail which is why it faced defeat during the FATF legislation.
He said the opposition seems to be desperate to cause a stir because with the passage of anti-money laundering law, their illegal assets are in danger.
He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan, along with the provinces, battled effectively with the pandemic and locust swarms. At present, the army and the civil leadership are working together to solve the country’s problems but our enemies want to develop a civil-military divide.
Taking part in the presser, Fawad Chaudhry congratulated Shibli Faraz, saying that the Ministry of Information set a new precedent by allowing broadcast of Nawaz Sharif’s address yesterday. The media in Pakistan enjoys complete freedom, he added.
Fawad Chaudhry said the main takeaway from the APC was that if the judiciary and the army do not stand by us, then there is none worse than them. Nawaz Sharif calls for the public to take to the streets while he himself sits in a Mayfair apartment. He admitted that letting the PML-N leader leave Pakistan was a mistake on the government’s part.
The Federal Minister for Science and Technology said that Hussain Haqqani leads the pro-India clique sitting in the United States and Nawaz Sharif’s speech plays into their agenda.
