Shehbaz Sharif demands immediate withdrawal of hike in power tariff
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday rejected the 84 paisa per unit hike in power tariff.
Reacting to the increase in the power tariff, the PML-N president demanded the federal government to immediately withdraw the decision, adding that the increase in electricity price was intolerable and unjust with the nation.
He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is filling the pockets of his aides, further burdening the already suffering public. “The prime minister who tried to become a hero by rejecting the hike in petrol prices has become zero by increasing the prices of gas and electricity,” he said.
In his statement, he added that the government criminally delayed the import of LNG, which led to production of electricity from oil instead of the cheaper natural gas. Who is responsible for this, he asked.
The PML-N President said that the country’s economy, businesses and employment opportunities have come to a standstill and the government has deprived the people of their right to live by imposing additional taxes on them. The government has already increased electricity and gas prices by a record amount, he added.
Shehbaz Sharif asked how the PM and his ministers condemn K-Electric but on the other hand, raise prices themselves as well. He threatened to take to the streets if the government does not accept his demand to withdraw the increase in electricity prices.
