PM Imran assures full cooperation to help cover damage caused by rain: Sindh CM Murad

CM Murad said that torrential rains claimed lives of 80 people in Sindh

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday said that federal government and Prime Minister Imran Khan have assured full support and cooperation to help cover the damage caused by the rain.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Friday, he said that rains caused a lot of damage to the citizens, adding that 80 people died across Sindh, including 47 in Karachi in rain-related incidents.

“At least 17 people were killed in Karachi, 10 in Hyderabad and six in Larkana yesterday,” he said.

The chief minister said that the provincial government is trying to compensate the damage to lives and properties of the citizens and for this, it is seeking support from the federal government.

Murad said that the city received 604 millimeters of rainfall. He pointed out the government and district administration are making all-out efforts to clear streets and bring life back to normal.

Earlier today, he visited Nursery on Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi and inspected rescue operation after torrential rains inundated different areas in the metropolis. 

During the visit, the CM has directed managing director of Karachi and Sewerage Water Board to review the master plan regarding dealing with rain-related incidents and submit report as early as possible.  

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister said that the rains would continue intermittently till Friday evening. He said the government is in contact with the Army, Navy and NDMA.

Murad Ali Shah said that rain water will be drained out once the downpour stops because if it rains again, it will cause even more trouble. He appealed to the citizens not to leave their homes.

He said that water has entered houses everywhere including less developed areas of the city.

He also said that ministers have been on duty in each district overseeing relief operations and called the torrential rains a natural calamity which will have long reaching effects.
